NAVPA Annual Awards

The NAVPA Special Recognition Committee invites nominations for the annual awards. These awards provide an opportunity to express appreciation to an individual or organization that demonstrates a commitment to veteran’s programs or excels in supporting the missions and goals of NAVPA. We offer an opportunity to identify colleagues and organizations that deserve recognition. Those chosen for awards will be recognized at the annual Conference. The awards and their descriptions are as follows:


NAVPA Service Award

Recognizes an individual for his/her contribution and dedication to Veterans and Veteran programs. Candidates must meet the following:

  • Must be a current NAVPA member
  • Contributed significantly to Veterans education programs providing outstanding service to Veterans, servicepersons, and/or military dependents with affirmation of NAVPA’s mission and purpose
  • Candidates must be characterized as exceptional. Repeatedly making contributions that are above and beyond the requirement of the position
  • Letters of recommendation (preferably from supervisor) should be submitted
  • Awards are issued for service within the past 12-month time period

Distinguished Service Award

Honors an individual or organization for outstanding service to NAVPA and/or has made a significant contribution to Veterans programs at the national, state, or regional level and has contributed to the betterment of Veterans education and through these actions, supports the goals and mission of NAVPA.

  • Candidates must be nominated by a NAVPA member and selected by the Special Recognition Committee
  • The individual so honored shall receive recognition in the form of a suitable plaque or certificate, to be presented (in absentia, if necessary) at the annual conference of the association

The Ron York Meritorious Achievement Award

Recognizes an individual who has made a significant contribution to the mission and goals of NAVPA while demonstrating leadership in the profession. This award is intended to bestow the highest honors to long-time members of the association. Candidates must meet the following:

  • Candidates must have served in a Veterans program administrator position for a period of no less than ten years
  • Must be a current NAVPA member with no less than seven years of membership
  • Candidates must be nominated by a NAVPA member and selected by the Special Recognition Committee
  • The individual so honored shall receive recognition in the form of a suitable plaque or certificate, to be presented (in absentia, if necessary) at the annual conference of the association
